Brewer's Blues

There once was a dwarf named Corvino
He was the middle child, had four siblings
His parents thought him too unruly
And sought to drown their sorrows in liquor
Corvino instigated too many a-bicker

They sent him off to the old drunk in the woods
Thankful they rarely did see him
The old drunk paid Corvino little mind
Corvino spent time hunting rabbits
With the wildlife he learned to cohabit

He traveled high among the mountains
Learned to draw maps and avoid poison berries
Got kidnapped by goblins for three years
He played the obedient squat pack horse
They showed him not an ounce of remorse

It was like being back in a family
So poor Corvino didn't feel too bad
One black night zombies brought slaughter
Corvino, deep sleeper, awoke too late
His new family had all met a chewy fate

He tried to negotiate his services
But the zombies weren't eager to barter
They came looking for juicy dwarven meat
Corvino slapped the nearest zombie 'cross the face
No effect, he felt such a disgrace

He closed his eyes and bit down on his lip
Ready to accept his cruel destiny
When arrows and rocks showered down
The old drunkard's daughter appeared a savior
After the carnage she shared an ale with such flavor

She told Corvino of her father's death
He was too drunk when the zombies arrived
Let them in the front door, a proper host
Oh, how miserable life can be Corvino thought
Without liquor and ale life's all for naught

Corvino decided to learn to brew ale
The daughter declared she wouldn't abide
Corvino was too foolish to comprehend
Stared blankly into her fiery eyes
He never did learn how to socialize

After a year of wondering about
Found an old brewer who need help moving barrels
Corvino stepped in and refused to leave
Demanded to learn the brewing craft
Frightened the elderly brewer with witchcraft

Corvino learned as much as his mind allowed
Never made a friend nor cared to
But then became overcome with terror
Because to whom would he sell his ale?
He'd better sort himself out lest he fail

He apologized to the brewer with fresh meat
The brewer died digesting diseased giant rat
Corvino snuck out in the middle of the night
Headed out seeking a fresh start, a new town
Vowed to himself he'd never become a clown

He ventured from town to town
Learning new lesson after lesson
Knowing he'd have to soon settle down
He spotted a simple job posting
Wasn't two minutes before he was boasting

Felt his life in the wilderness gave him favor
Led a group out on an adventure
Wasn't long before arrows came flying
The party were made fools by a few goblins
Flashed in his eyes was younger brother Dobbins

Corvino was wounded but found courage
He pressed on with the job for the reward
He had to prove his worth to his brother
And get everybody drunk, he himself with power
The ego more persuasive than willpower

His party struggled and was forever wounded
Corvino not too proud to cry out in pain
They pushed forward but always fell back
The mission a seemingly impossible task
But hope was the name Archstone on a flask

Corvino Archstone eventually learned magic
A hammer in the face during practice
But a tavern full of life and promise
A young lad eager to awash in trouble
Eventually would lead to Corvino as rubble

Corvino faced many sorts of trials
From more goblins to nothics and being jailed
Ol' Corvino kept acquiring more wounds
There was once a battle like that of a blizzard
Corvino smashed the skull of a mad wizard

The minions and Corvino's wounds were too much
Killing the boss just wasn't enough
The party all got chained up in cages
They did their best to talk their way out
But came a guard who wasn't mucking about

Corvino believed he was getting sense through
And he did, to at least one guard or two
He was holding his tongue best he could
But out slipped a word that just wasn't no-good
Two swords were snug against his neck
Next thing he knew, his head fell, a wreck
